About This Role

At Apeel Sciences, we look to nature to help the global food system improve quality, reduce waste, and ensure an abundant future for our planet. The Software team utilizes industry standard practices in client/server development, cloud computing, and real-time data visualization to service their many customers: employees, produce suppliers, and produce retailers.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced software engineer to design and implement data capture, structure, and analysis pipelines for our IoT sensors and build out backend tools to use in mining IoT data. You will also meticulously create well-constructed backend architecture around distributed sensors, to include data processing, storage, access, offline/online database syncing, and a RESTful API.

What You'll Do

• Create reliable hardware and software for interfacing with research instruments (scales, CO2 sensors, durometers, etc.)
• Work collaboratively with data scientists, interdepartmental stakeholders, and customers to determine and implement data collection and analysis projects
• Drive optimization and automation of data collection and storage from distributed sensors in an “offline-first” paradigm
• Build and maintain databases and/or utilize cost-effective and reliable third-party SaaS applications to store and manage data
• Create a backend API for our existing applications in order to get real-time data from distributed sensors
• Present frequently to the company (approximately once per 3 weeks) regarding deliverables, findings, scope of future work, and the impact to business value

What You’ll Bring 

• 3+ years shipping software
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Significant experience in a modern language (Python, Java, Go, C++, etc.)
• Ability to work across the stack and deliver clean, maintainable code
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• An appreciation for teamwork and collaborative problem solving

Nice to Have:

• Experience with modern Javascript frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, Ember, etc.)
• Experience with AWS and cloud-based solutions
