We are seeking a Software Engineer with WordPress experience who will help us to implement amazing front-end and back-end user experiences for our highly-customized site with over 10,000 articles reaching millions of monthly users.

The right person will be experienced with large, high traffic WordPress installations and must be able to code custom features and build plug-ins according to coding standards and best practices and will be knowledgeable in WordPress, PHP, Javascript and CSS. This role will be required to handle feature rich front end development along with complicated back end tasks such as migrations, search customization, and web service programming.

Responsibilities:

  • Development
    • Build, extend, maintain and deploy websites using the WordPress content management system.
    • Create and modify front end and back end components (themes, plugins, scripts and styles) using PHP, Javascript and CSS.
    • Demonstrate a complete understanding of WordPress (you’ve got to be a rock star)
    • Monitor, maintain and optimize front end and back end performance.
    • Design themes, templates and plugins based on wireframes and project requirements
    • Stay up to date with the latest WordPress and related plugin security updates.
    • Produce high-quality code that works well across multiple browsers and devices
  • Team Collaboration
    • Interact with the team to share and discuss design and functionality ideas
    • Interpret wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps
    • Discuss project milestones and key deliverables to peers and stakeholders
    • Set design guidelines, best practices and standards
    • Meet deadlines and stay on target
    • Work with designers to ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
    • Conducting quality assurance and tests of code quality

Requirements

  • 3 to 4 years of Wordpress development experience, has to have current work experience in Wordpress
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related studies is a plus but not a requirement
  • Technical skills should include multiple years in web development and experience with: WordPress, PHP, MySQL, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and JQuery,
  • Ability to build custom themes and plugins
  • Develop page types, taxonomy language, menus, and other WordPress CMS data structures
  • Experience with AWS services such as S3 and CloudFront
  • Experience using Git for version control
  • Familiar with Command-Line Interfaces (i.e. Bash)
  • Familiar with SEO best practices (semantic markup, alt tags, meta tags)
  • Ability to work with APIs
  • Able to write database queries and logic
  • Experience with common deployment methodologies (dev->stage->live)
  • Excellent debug experience
  • Stay up to date with community patches and updates as required
  • Strong knowledge of production-ready code QA such as browser testing, validity testing, and performance testing
  • Able to take direction, critique and brainstorming your ideas
  • Collaborative will-do attitude
  • Attention to detail
