Senior System Software Engineer, El Segundo, CA

Boeing Satellite Division in El Segundo is seeking Senior System Software Engineers, passionate about space and excited to work in a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment to design, develop and implement the next generation of communication payload software.
 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with System Engineering to define critical mission threads for a rapid prototype development
  • Responsible for capturing software requirements and defining critical features for demonstration 
  • Responsible for  requirements analysis, software architecture and designs
  • Experience in analyzing system requirements and decomposing them to software requirements. 
  • Ability to take requirements and define a software system architecture.
  • Candidate should possess excellent communications skills to participate in requirements, design and code reviews, have a thorough understanding of version control and software quality attributes, such as testability, portability and maintainability, and enjoy a self-driven and collaborative development approach.
  • Candidate should possess excellent communications skills and works well in a team environment.
  • Must be able to interact well with System Engineers/Analyst as well other members of the Integrated Product Team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience in presenting at program major reviews as well as lead the technical contents of all software technical documents.
  • Familiarity with formal development process and current software engineering topics is highly desired.

Qualifications, Experience and Education Requirements:

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

  • Bachelor degree or higher in engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience decomposing system/subsystem requirements into software requirements
  • Experience in software architecture and design of complex embedded software systems.
  • Experience in digital communication payload.
  • Experience leading a team of software engineers using agile development process
  • 15+ years of direct experience designing and developing software for a real time or non real-time system.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in object oriented design, C/C++ implementation and test.
  • 1+ years’ experience using DOORs and UML software modelling tools  
  • Experience working with system/subsystem engineers
  • Experience working with external software suppliers
  • Experience integrating large scale software systems.
  • Experience with resilient, anti-jam satellite communication software
  • Experience working in a classified environment and compliant with TOR standards.
  • Embedded/real-time OS (e.g. VxWorks) experience a plus.
  • UML modeling, test-driven development, agile process and DevOps tools experience desired.
  • Familiarity with real-time embedded software development that includes requirements analysis through Formal Qualification.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix operating system, software development of communication and network protocols, integration of COTS software, UML or other modeling language, SQL DB, DOORs, or ClearCase a major plus.
  • Prior avionics and payload software development experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with formal development process and current software engineering topics is highly desired.

Typical Education & Experience:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Basic relocation is available for internal candidates.
