Senior Structural Engineer/Analyst
Responsibilities:
- Strong understanding of structures fundamentals: statics, mechanics of materials, stress/strain.
- Ability to perform hand calculations and spreadsheet first order models to inform path forward before jumping into detailed design
- Strong focus on good architecture to ensure designs are robust in nature
- Define and document driving load cases for systems and components.
- Design primary structure and size components to meet these load cases with adequate margin
- Develop hand calculations, spreadsheet and scripted models, and FEA models to predict deflection, stress, modes, etc.
- Run modes, statics, and dynamics FEA and progress FEM as needed. Gate model maturity with type of analysis needed and state of hardware design
- Define and execute tests to verify designs. Tap or twang tests, static tests, vibration tests. Implement DAQ systems and post process data using higher level languages (Python preferred)
- Support failure reviews and root cause analysis with test data and structural analysis
- Present structures status to other team members, provide clear understanding of timelines and technical status
- Provide structures inputs to build out lab space and infrastructure
- Support mechanical, electrical, and software team’s development efforts with necessary structures inputs
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with focus on structures
- 7+ years of experience in Structures and Analysis
- Structural FEA experience - FEMAP/Nastran or ANSYS
- Experience developing code in higher level languages like Python, MATLAB, C++ for things like simple models and Nastran deck parsing
- Experience with vibration and static and modal testing and test data post processing
- Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties autonomously without supervision
- Experience with environmental testing and verification for consumer or automotive or aerospace
- Passion for defending the United States and her allies
