Hush is looking for talented Senior Backend Engineers to join our Core Services team!

We are looking for someone who is excited to tackle tough, multi-faceted challenges and has the drive to work on a wide array of products and projects.

The Core Services team builds the modern, high-performance services and systems that power our customer facing applications. We get excited about technological features that make our user’s say “Wow." The right engineer must be passionate about building scalable, modern systems that power our user’s experience.

What you’ll do

• Work on the core backend services that power the hush. experience
• Write, test and release production ready code
• Collaborate closely with other teams, in particular Product and Data Science, to develop innovative solutions
• Experiment with new technologies to make sure we can scale for the future

What you’ll need

• BS in Computer Science, or equivalent industry experience. Master’s degree is a plus
• At least 5+ years of relevant engineering experience
• Experience with Go, Java, C++ or Python (Go preferred)
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL or other RDBMS. (PostgreSQL preferred)
• Experience with real-time data and back-end technologies. (example: experience processing Kafka streams)
• Be deeply interested in the long-term view. Yes, we need to deliver value rapidly, but our problem domain will grow dramatically over time. Figure out where we need to be in a year and identify how we'll get there incrementally, while helping us manage and constrain technical debt and other forms of unnecessary complications which will in the long run serve us poorly
• To be a quick learner. We’re looking for software engineers who thrive on learning new technologies. As a startup, and we have a lot of problem domains that need to be worked on, and you should have the ability and drive to adapt accordingly
• Versatility. You understand how all the pieces fit together (front-end, database, network layer, etc.) and how they impact the performance of your application

Nice-To-Haves

• Experience developing services using gRPC, Thrift or other RPC standard
• Experience with protocol buffers
• Experience with AWS services, in particular DynamoDB
• Experience with Bazel/Make/Buck/Pants
• Experience with Kubernetes
• Experience with Spinnaker
