Job Description

A Senior Engineer 1 is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability is at the solution level.

The Order Management team supports the ecommerce platform for the Off Price websites of Nordstrom – hautelook.com and nordstromrack.com. Our platform processes transactions totaling over a $2 billion each year. Handling that volume of transactions comes with a unique set of challenges, from accepting different payment methods (credit cards, Apple Pay, PayPal), to addressing the ongoing threat of fraud. We are looking for people ready to take on those challenges and drive the platform to the next level.

A day in the life…

• Responsible for feature design, evaluate designs and provide feedback
• Develop, test, and deploy high quality code
• Influence quality standards and understand, identify, measure across an entire solution
• Identify performance issues and optimize solutions
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals
• Understand security protocols, interpret security and compliance requirements

You own this if you have…

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering
• 5+ years professional experience in practice area
• 4+ years preferred software development experience with Java or PHP
• Experience with SQL relational databases, in particular MySQL
• Understanding of source control systems, primarily git
• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms (Azure, GCP)
• Experience with UNIX and shell scripting tools (eg. bash)
