Clutter is an on-demand, technology company based in Los Angeles that is disrupting the $50B/year self-storage and moving industries. We’ve built an end-to-end logistics and supply chain platform, enabling us to offer consumers a much more convenient solution at price parity with the incumbents. We’ve raised $300M from a number of VCs, including Softbank, Sequoia Capital, Atomico and GV (formerly Google Ventures). We have 1,000+ team members and tens of thousands of customers in 7 major markets across the US with plans to be in 50+ markets, domestically and internationally, within the next 5 years!

At Clutter, we're fortunate to be providing a consumer value proposition that people love and one that makes economic sense - a true product/market fit that few startups ever find. To deliver on our promise to consumers, team members and investors, we've focused on hiring, training and retaining exceptional individuals. This means that we have a very thorough interview process and maintain high performance expectations, but we'll always be transparent with you and respectful of your time.

The opportunity:

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer who will directly influence the composition and focus of our growing Site Reliability team. This individual will diagnose vulnerabilities within our systems and identify opportunities for improvement. The alerts they set up will tell us not only when something goes awry — but why, when, and which other systems may be affected. The role will work cross-functionally across teams to build both software and hardware solutions that will shape the future of Clutter.

What you'll do:

  • Monitor and alert business unit impact for various systems across the organization
  • Create escalation systems specific to engineering pods
  • Conduct penetration tests and implement security best practices
  • Work on hardware projects to improve technical infrastructure for warehouse and field operations employees
  • Reduce our deployment time from 5 minutes to 30 seconds
  • Establish redundant, fault-tolerant cloud infrastructure by ensuring there are no single points of failure in critical services
  • Manage, organize, and improve cloud infrastructure environments
  • Immerse yourself in environments such as Heroku, AWS, and Apple Developer Program

What we're looking for:

  • At least five years of DevOps, site reliability, or similar experience
  • Proficiency with Python or Ruby
  • Experience working with Heroku, AWS, or similar cloud environments
  • Experience with scaling databases such as PostgreSQL and Redis
  • Experience setting up alerting and monitoring for various production systems
  • Experience with security hardening practices and penetration testing
  • Experience building automation workflow and continuous delivery pipelines using Jenkins, CircleCI, or similar tools
  • Proficiency with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet is a plus
  • Familiarity using containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes is a plus
  • Familiarity with CDN and caching strategies such as CloudFront, Fastly, or imgix is a plus
  • Familiarity with device management systems is a plus
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is a plus

Clutter is committed to fostering a fair, inclusive, and equal work environment. We strive to create a workplace that reflects the communities that we serve, where each team member is empowered to come to work as their true self. Diverse teams are more successful, which is why Clutter aims to be a leader in workplace equality and move both our company and the industry forward.
