Your Role: Senior Additive Manufacturing Systems Engineer 

Divergent is seeking an experienced and motivated controls / electro-mechanical engineer to support the development of next generation Additive Manufacturing (AM) equipment. In addition to our DMLS / SLM capability and partnership, we are developing new deposition technologies, including Electron Beam Welding (EBW) and Directed Energy Deposition (DED) Equipment. We’re committed to establishing a new industrial standard of automotive manufacturing. To do this, our team needs a systems engineer with demonstrated success in conceiving new system architectures and delivering robust and maintainable commercial products. 

What You'll Do:

• Support the development of an internally developed AM system that has a path to be produced for integration into an automated AM enabled manufacturing environment.

• Develop system architecture and topology, as well as generate design specifications at the systems and sub-system levels of the 3D printers.

• Specify, develop, and test welding, robotic, and control systems associated with the development systems.

• Design and perform tests to verify software in simulation.

• Work cross-functionally with system engineers and AM experts in improving deposition device capability, features, and process robustness.

• Work with Structural Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineers and Test Engineering teams to develop business capabilities, technical strategies, implementation strategies, and architectures.

What You Have:

• BS or MS in Electrical or Systems Engineering or Equivalent.

• 7+ years of experience defining system architectures and developing electro-mechanical systems prototypes and taking those designs through a full cycle development process

• Hands on experience with welding systems and their application

• Hands on experience with system design, product integration, and performance tuning

• Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

• Experience modeling electrical systems with tools such as Matlab, Simulink, and PSpice

• Solid interpersonal skills, capable of managing a small team and interfacing with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand system designs and the associated constraints

The Extras:

• Developed metal additive manufacturing equipment and / or CNC machining center

• Experience using robotic arms and PLC based automation equipment

• Experience working with model based programming environments

• Applied college engineering experience (FSAE/Formula Student programs a strong plus)

• Operations of CNC machines and understanding of G-Code

• Familiarity with data acquisition systems, sensor feedback, and controls

• Solid interpersonal and communications skills, capable of working in a startup environment with small teams and interfacing with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand system designs and the associated constraints
