Job Summary: 

 The Principal Mechanical Engineer works closely with the other engineering functions (EE, SW, Systems integration, Layout, TPM) to design, develop, test and mass produce robotic fulfillment hardware that improves DC density and throughput to improve customer experience and company ROI. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will influence peers and leaders with data-driven design decisions and must understand engineering best practices and GMP to develop a strong platform architecture. Good business acumen is required to support data-driven decisions. As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will set the bar for junior engineers and be expected to possess good communication skills and a curious mind while being highly collaborative. 

 

Job Expectations: 

  • Develops the mechanical architecture of robots, chargers and workstation solutions to market meeting schedule, budget and performance goals. 
  • Establish system and module specifications for internal and external (CM) use
  • Contribute to the development of smart, sustainable and meaningful department process and protocol
  • Scoping, managing, and delivering multiple technical projects in parallel from concept to production
  • Developing and reporting performance metrics for the electrical engineering team to peers and executives
  • Mentoring and developing great people
  • Maintain high level of communication with cross-functional team, and partners
  • Interfacing with leadership and project managers to drive development programs from concept to production
  • Key team member – must work well with others as a respected design lead
  • Ability to work in a highly ambiguous environment
  • Generate RFPs
  • Travel as necessary to support development and manufacturing

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • System and module level statistical tolerance Analysis
  • Design experience in various commodities (Stampings, Castings, Plastics, Machining)
  • Experience in complex mechanism design for mass production, reliability and low cost
  • Experience developing life estimation and testability modules and requirements
  • Familiar with industry standard CAD design tools, industry trends, and design for manufacturability
  • Ability to manage a process driven development mentality while also balancing time to market
  • Experience with the project management of phase gate technical projects a plus
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Education and Experience: 

  • Requires a minimum of 8 years of experience in Mechanical Design
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
