Principal Engineer, Telecom Core Network

The Principal Engineer, Telecom Core Network will primarily be involved in utilizing research, development, management skills and business acumen to participate in creating solutions to drive business success. We’re looking for an SME who is passionate about working on wireless technologies.

Responsibilities

• Network integration of new 4G and 5G wireless technology functions, standards, and protocols.
• Participate in design, implementation of Boingo LTE and 5G network infrastructure and protocols for both licensed and unlicensed technologies to meet company objectives.
• Contribute to the architecture and design of LTE/5G IP networks within a lab environment and support field trials and commercial deployments.
• Participate in Cellular network planning, network architecture design and engineering as well as implementation/configuration and support.
• Participate in the evaluations of 4G Core Network functions (MME, SGW, PGW) and common core elements (DRA/HSS/PCRF)
• Participate in the evaluations of 5G Core network functions (AMF, SMF, UPF, AUSF, UDM, PCF, NRF and NEF).
• Develop system level testing strategies against the EPC, 5G Core and Common Core elements.
• Participate in design and develop Analytics and Key Performance Indicators for the 5G Core and Subscriber Management systems to ensure the systems can be adequately monitored for threshold and predictive analytics.
• Document operation procedures

Requirements

• 9 years Telecom industry experience with minimum 7 years wireless telecom experience. Wireless Service Provider experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of 3GPP LTE 4G EPC and 5G Core standards and Packet Data Network Architectures
• Direct experience with eNodeB to S/P-GW, MEC offload and overall LTE procedures strongly preferred.
• Direct experience with 5G Core deployment options, network integration and configuration.
• Knowledge in Core Network KPI tracking and optimization procedures.
• Knowledge in Policy, charging and QoS enforcement in packet data networks.
• IMS networks and services including RCS or VoLTE
• Experience in Network Function Virtualization, Openstack, and python scripting.
• Experience is detailed debugging of call flows and network operations and protocols.
• Working experience developing system requirements, interpreting network specifications and creating and implementing test plans and reports.
• TCP/IP networking (basic routing, analyzing network captures, etc.)
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and work within a team.
• BS or higher in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
