Who are you?

You’re a highly skilled, and motivated technologist looking for a new, exciting project that will challenge you to become a better engineer while also helping millions of people across America live healthier.

With a deep understanding of software technologies, you’ll leverage your technical expertise to architecture, frameworks, performance, automated testing, monitoring, and more. Working closely with the rest of our engineering team, you’ll assist in creating the foundation for how we build data-driven applications, tools, and experiences for our subscribers, brands, and employees.

We need your help in building three things:

• “The Netflix for Snacks.” We’re building the most advanced “personalized snacking experience” in the industry which means we need your help to build cutting edge recommendation engines that deploy machine learning and artificial intelligence to deliver ultra-customized snack curations for our customers
• “The Master Key for Brands.” Our proprietary data & insights SaaS platform unlocks all the secrets of what today’s snack brands need to succeed in the marketplace. The Master Key is an insights engine that combines consumer data, predictive analytics, and prescriptive analytics to provide real-time intelligence from target consumers which helps CPG brands improve their product, stay competitive, and grow.
• “Robots Talking to Robots.” That’s right, robots talking to robots! We’re building a decision engine that uses machine learning to optimize groupings of shipments and forecast just-in-time inventory so that customers can get personalized boxes of snacks (which, in the future, will be packed by robots). The only question is, are you more “Ex Machina” or “Her?”

What You'll Do:

• Augment team by hiring software engineers
• Lead team of platform engineers building out our unified RESTful API layer
• Mentor engineers on personal and professional growth via 1v1s
• Build new features to our fast growing and evolving application, with daily deployments and real-time metrics.
• Participate in code reviews
•  Work with a team of talented and passionate developers and designers to build simple, beautiful and consistent user experience for our applications.

Who You Are:

• You have 2+ year of engineering management experience coaching, mentoring, and growing highly productive teams
• You have 5+ years of professional experience with Ruby on Rails
• Experience with databases and data modeling using MySQL or PostgreSQL
• Experience with REST architectural patterns and experience building RESTful services
• Deep knowledge of modern web technologies like HTTP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• Fluent in Agile methodology and processes
• Excellent programming skills and strong sense of ownership, accountability and delivery
• You enjoy providing mentorship, learning, and being collaborative in cross-functional teams
• You seek perpetual growth.

Our Tech Stack

• Ruby-on-rails, rspec, capybara, mysql, javascript, jquery, chef, scss, haml, redis, handlebars, jasmine
• We use Ruby on Rails for application server, MySQL for database, and Redis for our A/B testing data.
• Our servers are hosted on AWS EC2 and they are built using Chef. We do code review via GitHub, we use RSpec for all server-side tests including integration, and Jasmine for JavaScript tests. Our tests are automatically run on our CI server.
• We implemented a style guide based on this article.
