1. Position Overview

The Lead Test Architect’s is responsible for leading technical efforts for the Hardware and Firmware Validation Engineering team and for delivering test platforms and test solutions to support EVT, DVT, PVT, and Production validation and manufacturing test efforts.

The Lead test architect will lead validation efforts for Romeo Power Technology’s Electrical Vehicle, Industrial, and Consumer products and for future products that will be added to our product portfolio as it evolves and grows into new strategic areas.

The role of Lead Test Architect is a Lead Engineering position and the successful candidate will be responsible for defining and managing the validation and manufacturing test process for all Romeo Power Technology PCBA’s, Firmware, and Software components that are integrated into battery systems for a wide range of battery systems and industries.

The Lead Test Architect will have a deep understanding of the engineering validation and manufacturing process and will ensure that the strategic solution fits seamlessly into its specific engineering or manufacturing environment.

The Lead Test Architect will also be responsible for ensuring that strategic solutions are extremely efficient in terms of test coverage and test time, and will interlock with the electrical engineering and firmware teams to agree on test requirements and deliverables.

The Lead Test Architect will manage the development and delivery of strategic solutions and will have access to a team of validation, electrical, and firmware engineers to assist with associated tasks.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Own and lead all activities of design verification and validation throughout product life-cycle management.
  2. Lead the development and documentation of the design verification plans, design validation test plans and final test reports. Manage test related anomalies.
  3. Lead the development and documentation of verification & validation test methods, protocols and test traceability.
  4. Interact with Electrical Engineering and Software/Firmware Engineering to ensure requirements are testable.
  5. Develop test systems and methods for EVT, DVT, and PVT on engineering test PCBAs and firmware.
  6. Manage system integration activities to minimize issues in system verification and validation testing.
  7. Manage hardware and firmware/software verification and validation testing.
  8. Productionize validation equipment for End-of-Line Testing
  9. Interact with design team to resolve tests-related technical issues.
  10. Interact with design team to conduct reliability growth testing.
  11. Direct/lead senior and junior technical team members within area of responsibility to complete projects with quality, within time, and budget boundaries
  12. Participate and/or lead design reviews.
  13. Collaborate across multiple groups to leverage talent and processes effectively.
  14. Develop and manage processes and tools.
  15. Lead the SW development of HIL test systems for Romeo Power and conceptualize HIL system design migration to EOL test designs.
  16. Own and lead all activities of design verification and validation throughout product life-cycle management.
  17. Incorporate appropriate levels of automation to reduce attended steps in the test process.
  18. Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering team to develop process flows, product data structure, configurations that maximize throughput and minimize solution cost.
  19. Work closely with electrical and firmware engineering teams to gain approval for test plans and test coverage during solution development and prior to implementing for engineering validation and manufacturing.
  20. Establish the test plan for each Romeo Power Technology product ensuring compatibility with all of the test and environments in engineering and manufacturing.
  21. Ensure that solutions include adequate debug capability.
  22. Solutions must provide cycle time, process quality data and process metrics.
  23. Interface w/ fulfilment and manufacturing sites to provide critical order management support.
  24. Lead the SW development of HIL test systems for Romeo Power and conceptualize HIL system design migration to EOL test designs.
  25. Test software areas of coverage could include, but may not be limited to the following:
  26. Executive software (TestStand, Veristand, LabVIEW, .NET, Python, etc.).
  27. Low level driver development (LabVIEW, Python, FPGA, SCPI, VISA, GPIB & IVI, as necessary).
  28. API design and development between functional layers.
  29. Test case design and development to integrate with System kernel API.
  30. Device driver in scripting languages such as (LabVIEW, Python, PERL, Batch, etc..) for a variety of test system integration needs and bench test designs.
  31. Proven experience with National Instruments® software (TestStand, LabVIEW, in Windows and/or RTOS systems) is a must.
  32. Python development experience is a must.
  33. Test System design and development is a plus.
  34. Design of harnessing, test fixtures (E.G. Bed of Nails), and test rack configurations
  35. Familiarity with SBC (Single Board Computer) test designs is a plus.
  36. Simulink /Matlab model development and/or integration is a plus.
  37. Battery test experience in EV, Consumer products, or industrial is a plus.
  38. The Lead Test Architect is expected to assume responsibility for turn-key system client software where applicable and work with internal and external clients to find integration solutions.
  39. The Lead Test Architect is expected to collaborate with other members of Shared Test Services and work cross functionally to provide test solutions for engineering, manufacturing, advanced product development and sales/marketing as needed.
  40. Requirements gathering, test case development, estimating work effort, configuration management, and documentation.

Basic Qualifications

  1. 10+ years of relevant industry experience including engineering validation and manufacturing testing of automotive PCBAs and firmware.
  2. Background of leading teams and driving strategic direction for large projects.
  3. Experience of direct interaction with customer Supply Chain and Development teams.
  4. Manufacturing test development experience with automotive hardware and firmware.
  5. Experience with Linux O/S, WinPE windows and Python scripting.
  6. BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
  7. Strong English Skills preferred.
  8. Candidate must be pro-active and highly self-motivated self-starter.
  9. Must be prepared to travel to customer sites and manufacturing facilities.
  10. Ability to lead technical staff in the group that ensures clear accountability and operational excellence.
  11. Actively communicate and advocate team’s capabilities and accomplishments.
  12. Responsible for development of state-of-the-art industry expertise and technical competencies.
  13. Ensure effective performance management.
  14. Develop and maintain an effective and collaborative working relationship with internal and external development partners.
