1. Position Overview

The Lead Firmware Validation Engineer’s is responsible for technical efforts for the Firmware Validation Engineering team, supporting test case and test plan development, performance, test documentation/reports for feature testing, regression testing, and system level firmware validation.

The Lead Firmware Validation Engineer will execute, at a high level, validation efforts for Romeo Power Technology’s Electrical Vehicle, Industrial, and Consumer products and for future products that will be added to our product portfolio as it evolves and grows into new strategic areas.

The role of Lead Firmware Validation Engineer is a Senior Engineering position and the successful candidate will be responsible for defining and managing the validation and manufacturing test process for all Romeo Power Technology Firmware and Software components that are integrated into battery systems for a wide range of battery systems and industries.

The Lead Firmware Validation Engineer will have a deep understanding of the engineering validation and manufacturing process and will ensure that the strategic solution fits seamlessly into its specific engineering or manufacturing environment.

The Lead Firmware Validation Engineer will also be responsible for ensuring that strategic solutions are extremely efficient in terms of test coverage and test time, and will interlock with the electrical engineering and firmware teams to agree on test requirements and deliverables.

  1. Key Roles and Responsibilities
    1. Lead and lead all activities of design verification and validation throughout product life-cycle management.
    2. Lead the development and documentation of the design verification plans, design validation test plans and final test reports. Manage test related anomalies.
    3. Lead the development and documentation of verification & validation test methods, protocols and test traceability.
    4. Interact with Electrical Engineering and Software/Firmware Engineering to ensure requirements are testable.
    5. Develop test systems and methods for EVT, DVT, and PVT on firmware/software systems.
    6. Support system integration activities to minimize issues in system verification and validation testing.
    7. Lead firmware/software verification and validation testing.
    8. Interact with design team to resolve tests-related technical issues.
    9. Interact with design team to conduct reliability growth testing.
    10. Direct/lead Senior and junior technical team members within area of responsibility to complete projects with quality, within time, and budget boundaries
    11. Participate and/or lead design reviews.
    12. Collaborate across multiple groups to leverage talent and processes effectively.
    13. Develop and Lead processes and tools.
    14. Support the SW development of HIL test systems for Romeo Power and conceptualize HIL system design migration to EOL test designs.
    15. Lead and lead all activities of design verification and validation throughout product life-cycle management.
    16. Lead the development and documentation of the design verification plans, design validation test plans and final test reports. Manage test related anomalies.
    17. Productionize validation equipment for End-of-Line Testing
    18. Lead the development of cost-effective solutions, meeting product and customer requirements while ensuring manufacturing efficiency, throughput and cost targets are met.
    19. Incorporate appropriate levels of automation to reduce attended steps in the test process.
    20. Work closely with electrical and firmware engineering teams to gain approval for test plans and test coverage during solution development and prior to implementing for engineering validation and manufacturing.
    21. Establish the test plan for each Romeo Power Technology product ensuring compatibility with all of the test and environments in engineering and manufacturing.
    22. Ensure that solutions include adequate debug capability.
    23. Solutions must provide cycle time, process quality data and process metrics.
    24. Interface w/ fulfilment and manufacturing sites to provide critical order management support.
    25. Lead the SW development of HIL test systems for Romeo Power and conceptualize HIL system design migration to EOL test designs.
    26. Strong background in C, C++, and/or other scripting languages.
    27. Python development experience is a desired
    28. Familiarity with SBC (Single Board Computer) test designs is a plus.
    29. Simulink /Matlab model development and/or integration is a plus.
    30. Battery test experience in EV, Consumer products, or industrial is a plus.
    31. The Lead Firmware Validation Engineer is expected to assume responsibility for turn-key system client software where applicable and work with internal and external clients to find integration solutions.
    32. The Lead Firmware Validation Engineer is expected to collaborate with other members of Shared Test Services and work cross functionally to provide test solutions for engineering, manufacturing, advanced product development and sales/marketing as needed.
    33. Requirements gathering, test case development, estimating work effort, configuration management, and documentation.
  2. Basic Qualifications
    1. 5+ years of relevant industry experience including engineering validation of firmware/software.
    2. Background of leading teams and driving strategic direction for large projects.
    3. Experience of direct interaction with customer Supply Chain and Development teams.
    4. Manufacturing test development experience with automotive hardware and firmware.
    5. Experience with Linux O/S, WinPE windows and Python scripting.
    6. BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
    7. Strong English Skills preferred.
    8. Candidate must be pro-active and highly self-motivated self-starter.
    9. Must be prepared to travel to customer sites and manufacturing facilities.
    10. Ability to lead technical staff in the group that ensures clear accountability and operational excellence.
    11. Actively communicate and advocate team’s capabilities and accomplishments.
    12. Responsible for development of state-of-the-art industry expertise and technical competencies.
    13. Ensure effective performance management.
    14. Develop and maintain an effective and collaborative working relationship with internal and external development partners.
