Industrial Engineer (DC Layout)
Job Summary:
The DC Layout Engineer is responsible for developing a complex distribution center design. The DC Layout Engineer will design new warehouses to meet scope, timeline, budget and performance requirements. Warehouse design includes facility layouts, material handling, equipment designs, storage designs, process designs, slotting and pick path analyses, WMS and WCS requirement definitions, capacity plans with noted constraints, warehouse utilization studies, and labor models and staffing plans. This role is highly focused on developing new technologies, so benchmarking “traditional” DC operations against new designs is key.
Job Expectations:
- Leads development of data driven designs by analyzing order, SKU, and storage data
- Influence engineers developing robotics, storage, automation, and other material handling solutions
- Conducts gap analysis and ensures issues are resolved
- Identifies risks and mitigation plans to reduce company exposure and risk on project; communicates such to superiors
- Serves as liaison between Operations and Engineering to create design specifications
- Serves as expert on material handling equipment and storage media selection, process design, receipt and put away methodologies, pick area media types and methodology, and slotting and sequencing
- Ensures designs are supported with data and calculations
- Effectively communicates relevant project information to team
- Supports investment strategy by providing analysis and operational expertise
- Other duties as required and assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
Must have strong knowledge of warehouse design, material handling equipment and storage media technologies, pick methodology, work measurement, labor management, slotting, and warehouse value added services (i.e., kitting and price labeling) - Excellent analytical/problem solving capabilities and presentation skills required.
- Prior supervisory/leadership experience required.
- warehousing, distribution center or fulfillment experience preferred
- Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
Equipment Knowledge:
- Understanding of AutoCAD
Experience Requirements:
Requires a minimum 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination education and experience
Education Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering required.
(Example: Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field preferred, or a combination of education and equivalent work experience).
