About the VP of Product Engineering at Headspace:

Headspace is looking for an exceptional leader as the VP of Product Engineering, reporting directly to the CTO. This role is based in our Santa Monica office.

This individual will be someone who understands software exists to deliver value for our members. You will bring your expertise to bear on helping scale Headspace as we move into new geographic markets, new platforms and new verticals ensuring we are living our vision of improving the health and happiness of the world.

You will also shape our engineering approach to developing products on mobile, voice, and web platforms and will ensure we have a scalable software design and development process as we move into more markets.

From a technology perspective you are able to transverse, ‘talk’ and understand multiple languages and be as comfortable discussing decisions with our iOS developers as you are with our front end web engineers. You care deeply about the user experience and help each person on your team understand the impact of their decisions on creating the best possible experience for our members.

How your skills and passion will come to life at Headspace:

• You will help design and implement our international strategy including how to not only an internationalizable application but how we scale our products to address unique needs of each market
• You will guide the team through transitions as we continue to scale from startup to a mature scaled organization that can deliver high quality quickly
• Experience working with open source technologies (i.e. Node.js)
• Build a ubiquitous experience across a multitude of platforms ensuring Headspace continuity for members
• Form strong cross-functional partnerships to achieve alignment with many engineering teams and ensure our solutions meet their needs
• Build & mentor a cohesive team of amazing engineers in a fast-paced startup
• Rapidly scale the engineering team and help secure top engineering talent
• Foster and grow an engineering environment that incorporates high quality, simple design and innovative technical solutions

What you’ve accomplished?

• 10+ years of experience in an Engineering Leadership position
• Launched both web and mobile applications
• Lead teams that embrace automation
• Ability to go as deep with Javascript as you can with Android
• Promote engineering discipline and performance management for our consumer applications.
• Exceptionally strong leadership skills — experience building great engineering cultures, inspiring engineers and building brands around technical work
• Experience managing cross functional engineering and product teams
