WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR . . .

Versus is looking for an experienced Head of Engineering to play a critical role at a fast-growing startup that already has a product in-market. While this position does require development expertise, your primary role will be building, mentoring, and leading teams of engineers as we grow. We are creating an advertising and engagement platform that allows game developers and brand partners the opportunity to reward players with in-game and real-world prizes.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING…

As the Head of Engineering at Versus you will be responsible for the growth and delivery of engineering, QA, and devops functions supporting the Versus product suite. You will help guide the technical vision and be an advocate for fostering and maintaining a strong engineering culture and supporting the organization through cross functional collaboration and continuous improvement.

You will help define the processes for how the engineering team works including thinking about new ways to include project and product management and QA to create a holistic and well rounded vision to building software products. You will need to be a strong and empathetic leader and use your experiences to help manage individual contributors and other managers on the team. You will work with your team to plan and guide people in their careers and find opportunities to succeed. Your job will help define engineering and product development goals to accomplish the broader goals for the business.

• Leading and managing a team of individual contributors and engineering managers
• Work closely with product design, business development, operations, customer support, and the rest of the senior management team to help execute the direction and goals for the business
• Have a major impact to R&D, architectural, or strategic decisions
• Working internally with business development and external partners as new games are on-boarded to the platform
• Working on continuing to build the Versus engineering career path framework and working with HR to help drive performance management

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE...

• 10+ years of technical and people management leadership
• Worked on B2B technology and understands the need for strong development, documentation, and support
• Built scalable APIs that that were designed to serve multiple types of end consumers including websites, mobile applications, and other servers
• Comfort in working in early stage, fast moving, and resource constrained environments
• Experience with web development using Ruby on Rails, React and either AWS or GCP
• Experience recruiting, hiring, and retaining engineering and development talent and care about personal and professional growth
• A background as a mentor and advocate for their teams in agile and software development best practices and constantly finding new ways to improve

• A vision and relentlessness to holding engineers and teams of people accountable to define and adhere to standards and best practices
• Strong project and people management skills
• Experience in testing and automation
• Excellent communication skills, including executive meetings and and presentations

WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE…

• Strong knowledge of mobile technology ecosystems including React Native, iOS, and Android
• Experience with the video game industry and understanding of major platforms and toolchains including Unity, Unreal, Steamworks, Xbox, and Sony Playstation
• Someone who has helped lead a team and transition through architectural, technology, core framework changes
• Experience building and leading teams of QA and QC engineers to improve automation, end-to-end smoke tests, and system performance testing
• Experience working with Elixir
• Hands on experience scaling APIs to thousands of requests per second
