As a member of the FreePrints team, you will play a key role in managing and developing the backend services that power our mobile application platform. You will solve technical challenges in global web-scale computing, distributed systems, web applications, optimization, scalability, availability and algorithms.

You will directly interact with PlanetArt’s development teams across the globe, to design and deliver the best solutions to grow FreePrints and the PlanetArt platform.

Overview

We are looking for a passionate, talented and super-smart Engineering Manager to lead a nascent team of backend web developers. To succeed, you need to innovate, love solving hard problems and never take no for an answer. You need to inspire and motivate our engineers, who are some of the best software developers in the industry, delivering results at scale to millions of customers worldwide.

You have a broad technology and management toolbox from which you are able to develop the team and guide their technical implementations. You will lead the team to deliver robust solutions that drive ongoing expansion to PlanetArt offerings around the world. Your solutions must be well designed, implemented, tested, deployed and supported.

This is a hands-on role for a working manager. You will be coding alongside your team on all projects.

What You Should Have

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field. Or some level of formal education in CS.

• Track record of leading teams of developers to deliver full-stack software solutions at scale. Considerable software development experience in object-oriented design and LAMP-based distributed systems.

• Experience with and understanding of AWS architecture and services, including EC2, S3, RDS and NoSQL DBs.

• Experience managing a team of developers and collaborating with offshore development teams.

• Strong design, architecture, and problem solving skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.

• A deep understanding of software development lifecycle, and a track record of shipping production quality software on time.

It would be great if you also had:

• A history of working in start-ups and fast paced environments handling multiple, competing priorities.

• Experience developing applications for Android and iOS.

• Languages: PHP, node.js, Java, C++, Objective-C.

• Deep experience in web technologies and creating compelling mobile experiences using these technologies.

• Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions.
