How You Can Make An Impact
In this unique Energy Engineer role you will analyze energy use and efficiency data to develop and maintain efficiency scoring and ranking criteria. You’ll help create and maintain large databases of product energy use and efficiency performance data, and you’ll use your mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge to statistically analyze and model the energy and efficiency performance of consumer products.
What you’ll do
- Collect and record energy use and efficiency performance data for thousands of consumer products.
- Learn and understand efficiency performance metrics and energy efficiency test procedures.
- Derive, develop and document scaling laws that describe the dependence of product energy use on capacity, and other attributes.
- Develop algorithms for detecting data outliers and potential data errors.
- Check and evaluate data from multiple sources and understand and evaluate different efficiency and energy use values that may be publicly available for the same product.
- Assist with collection, analysis and processing of field measurements of product energy use.
- Research and understand the relationship and differences between public and government ratings of product energy use and field performance.
- Collaborate with data services teammates to improve and maintain a rapidly expanding database of product energy use, efficiency ratings, and efficiency rankings.
- Calculations and analysis will be done in spreadsheets and code (Python and R as appropriate).
Job requirements
What You Bring To The Team
Your passion for building the future of how consumers make energy decisions in addition to the following:
- BA/BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics or closely related field
- Knowledge of electronics and some electrical engineering
- In-depth knowledge of energy efficiency, clean energy or energy use fields, including knowledge and experience with product and building energy efficiency
- Excellent engineering and data analysis skills (Python, R)
- Experience independently analyzing data with a good physical and engineering intuition and product quality analysis, energy use and energy performance measurement
