Your Role: Director of Vehicle Structural Engineering 

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Director of Structural Engineering to lead the next generation of industry-leading vehicle structural architecture development. We’re committed to transforming the vehicle structural systems away from traditional unibody / body in white to a 3D printing enabled system using new materials and new technologies. To do this, we need a forward-looking and innovative engineering leader who will help shape the future of automotive structures.

Your Key Objectives:

•Responsible for structural design and structural integration for a complete vehicle program

•Lead the design of complete vehicle structures programs. This individual will use the Divergent Node technology to engineer vehicle structures that replace the function provided by traditional stamped unibody construction.

•Meet all structural and crash performance requirements for a complete vehicle structure. Producing a mass optimized structure based on hard points provided by Vehicle Integration and working with the Divergent CAE organization.

•Design and analyze Node™-based vehicle structures using hand calculations, topology optimization and CAD / CAE tools.

•Participate in advanced component and structures technology development. 

•Take responsibility for structural integrity and compliance to Divergent technical and quality standards throughout the vehicle’s life cycle.

•Production engineering design release of structural systems. 

•Communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations.

•Balancing business imperatives, including but not limited to cost, mass, complexity, and timing. 

•Work cross-functionally to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and support prototype and production build activities. 

What You Have: 

•BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

•5+ years proven track record of leading the development of complete vehicle body structures. Shipping innovative, robust and maintainable commercial products through a full cycle development process 

•Prior experience using advanced materials (composites, adhesives, metals) to achieve lightweight structural solutions.

•5+ years of CAD and CAE experience, with hands on experience as a body systems engineer

•Ability to thrive and deliver results in a startup environment

•Solid interpersonal skills and communication skills

•Proven leadership abilities to manage, motivate and develop a small team 

•Effectively interface with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand system designs and the associated constraints

•Deep knowledge of vehicle structural systems, crash implications and structural performance requirements
