Role Description

We currently have a need for a Director of Software Development. This position is ideal for individuals who have the drive and desire to create solutions. It requires a highly motivated individual with attention to details and a hunger to learn and solve problems.

The ideal candidate should come from a high volume, consumer facing portals background and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment (as well as understand the specific challenges that come along with it). This is a hands-on technical leadership role.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team that envision, design, develop, and architect services for XPRIZE platforms and web portals
• Oversee roadmap, operations and evaluate them according to established goals
• Analyze the business requirements of all departments to determine their platform and portals needs
• Coordinate IT managers and supervise computer scientists, web developers, technicians and other professionals to provide guidance
• Control budget and report on expenditure
• Procure buy in from senior management for needed projects
• Manage and oversee all stages of the development lifecycle for new projects
• Work to deliver products on time and on budget
• Help to prioritize short- and long-term objectives
• Maintain existing programs, seeing that necessary updates are made
• Assisting with technical resolution of issues on mission critical production systems
• Thinking out of the box to come up with solutions that scale, are fault-tolerant, easy to grasp and elegant.
• Support and anticipate developer needs – you will be their go-to person for questions and support.
• Partner with product management and operations to create and evangelize our services platform.

Requirements

• Proven track record as a software development leader with 6+ years of experience managing teams of 10 or more
• 6+ years of hands-on experience as an engineer with involvement in architecture, design, and implementation across many disparate technologies from the back-end through the front-end
• Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization from senior executives to entry-level engineers
• Driven, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
• Experience with cloud providers such as Azure and GCE
• Experience with containerized microservices and serverless architectures
• Experience with distributed systems and related concepts
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL datastores
• Focused, dependable, detail-oriented and hands-on – completes tasks quickly and thoroughly
• Excellent work ethics and communication skills – written, verbal and interpersonal
• Experience in managing technology budget
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills
• BSc/BA in computer science, engineering or relevant field; MSc/MA will be a plus
