Director of Engineering
We are a small, tight-nit startup looking to hiring a Director of Engineering in Westwood (near UCLA), Los Angeles. UpKeep is backed by Y Combinator and some of the top VCs in the world.
This is a full time position in Los Angeles.
Our ideal candidate is a self-starter and can use best judgment to make fast and efficient decisions. As a startup, we're flexible, agile and we love to learn.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be at the heart of developing new ideas into products
- Work alongside and collaborate with product, engineering, and partner teams to deliver products, features, services, and tools
- Drive rapid prototyping cycles from technical requirements, software designs, programming, debugging, and optimization
- Be scrappy and leverage the small team to the fullest to work on multiple parallel solutions and tools.
- Own the roadmap for engineering fundamentals
- Explore and innovate new technologies, features, and tools
- Work collaboratively across team boundaries to share common infrastructure and functional capabilities. Provide feedback into core product teams to influence their roadmap and strategy.
-"Hands-on" development in addition to management. Help build and lead great - software teams to deliver world-class products.
- Establish a solid project framework and excellent development processes.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to both your team members and your project peers.
- Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the engineering and management teams
- Participate in company-wide initiatives to develop design patterns, and champion them on the relevant R&D teams
- Provide feedback on functionality requests regarding feasibility and complexity
- Actively participate in code and design reviews
- Have results driven personality, high enthusiasm, energy, and confidence
- Manage and structure the engineering teams for delivering high quality solution in a fast paced environment
THE QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4+ years experience developing scalable web and mobile solutions
- Experience leading or managing a handful of engineers or larger teams.
- Experience with the AWS ecosystem
- Expertise with API standards and design patterns
- Experience with NodeJS, React, Native Mobile (Objective C, Swift, Java) and have strong opinions for which other languages and frameworks could be in our best interest
- Proven track record of collaborating on a team on large-scale projects
- You love startups and working in the startup culture
- BS in Computer science or equivalent
