A typical day as a DevOps Engineer might include:

  • Work with software development and operations departments to deploy and operate software systems.
  • Develop software for systems automation.
  • Develop software tools for cloud infrastructure.
  • Develop web-based tools and microservices.
  • Define workflows, good practices, and pipelines for software continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • Build and maintain tools for deployment, monitoring and operations.
  • Configure, install, and monitor web and application servers.
  • Perform administration and maintenance of version control systems.
  • Work with business units on day-to-day operations.
  • Build and improve infrastructure development workflows.
  • Utilize various tools to orchestrate solutions from high-availability systems.
  • Design and implement build, deployment, and configuration management systems.
  • Document engineering processes contribute to Quality Assurance process and improve processes for delivery software to production systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in development, quality assurance, and production environments.
  • Improve communication and collaboration between IT and software development departments.
  • Utilize version control system: Git, Subversion.
  • Utilize Programming languages: Python, Groovy (Java scripting) and Golang.
  • Utilize operating systems: Linux and UNIX.
  • Utilize continuous integration and delivery systems: Jenkins, Ansible, and Puppet.
  • Work with storage systems: NetApp, SolidFire.
  • Utilize monitoring systems: Ganglia, Kibana, Grafana, Instana. 

What You Have:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree, or a foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related, and one year of experience in the job offered or as Software Developer, Software Architect or related (will accept five years of experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree).
  • Experience must include: Architecting software for developing, deploying and testing web applications; Developing solutions and applications implemented for quality assurance purposes; Installing and configuring version control systems; Designing front-end and back-end components of application features; and Python, relational databases, website architecture and UNIX/Linux (will accept any suitable combination of education, training or experience).
