About the Chief Technology Officer @ Headspace:

Headspace is looking for a Chief Technology Officer to join the Executive team and reporting directly to the CEO, Rich Pierson. She/he will lead the entire engineering organization and will have all duties and authorities commensurate with the position. These responsibilities are vital to achieving Headspace’s strategic goals and its mission to improve the health and happiness of the world.

This position is visible inside and outside the company, as it represents Headspace to the external tech community in Los Angeles, San Francisco and further afield. As Headspace expands beyond guided meditation to become a full service, personalized health and wellness company, all supported by a highly scalable web services platform, the complexity of the technology stack will grow exponentially. This, coupled with the intention to significantly grow the engineering organization, will make the CTO role at Headspace one of the most exciting challenges in the industry.

• Oversee the Software Engineering, Data Engineering, DevOps, Data Analytics, and Data Science teams within Headspace.
• Rapidly scale the engineering team, creating a world-class technology organization.

• Evaluate current tech stack to determine improvements. We currently use Node.JS, TypeScript, Microservices, Javascript.

• Foster and grow an engineering environment that incorporates high quality, simple design and innovative technical solutions.
• Implement development methodologies that will deliver software against specific launch dates of new products, while simultaneously improving the backend systems, allowing Headspace to grow their user base substantially.
• Lead Headspace‘s engineering organization and help it thrive through hyper growth and vision.
• Develop an environment where engineers and their managers are supported and mentored to greater heights and scale on their own.
• Organize teams and engineering processes to deliver the best product while also planning for explosive growth.
• Contribute to Headspace’s mission to improve the health and happiness of the world.
• As a key member of the Executive team to drive the company’s vision, strategies, and priorities forward.
• Bring a technical voice and perspective to the Executive team.

What you’ve accomplished:

• Has successfully led a world-class consumer engineering organization through hyper growth.
• Ideally the CTO will have rapidly scaled a technical organization while maintaining an outstanding software delivery cadence.
• Exceptionally strong leadership skills — experience of building a great engineering culture by inspiring engineers and building a brand around technical work.
• An outstanding people manager, with proven talent around organizing teams and creating streamlined engineering processes.
• This person will have a passion for developing the careers of the people in their team, and developing strong managers reporting directly to them.
• A deep technologist, who will manage Headspace’s technical roadmap, and provide technical oversight to the engineering organization.
• Humble, collaborative, resilient and passionate.
