Back-end Engineer

About the position

As the Back-end Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in developing maintainable and scalable API services and other backend components. You will solve challenging enterprise architecture and integration problems. You will take active part in defining architecture guidelines, selecting tools, and establishing internal standards for creating web apps. You will build expert knowledge of travel industry standards and technology ecosystem, and use it to guide the rest of the team in building best in class business travel products.



Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain backend services, including complex integrations with our technology partners (payment gateways, travel inventory, search and so on)
  • Follow and enforce so-called best practices and standards throughout the codebase
  • Conduct code reviews and mentor team members in your areas of expertise
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Design on the defining product requirements
  • Provide realistic estimate of the level of effort of backlog items and plan your work according to them



You should apply if

  • You have a thorough understanding proven by practice of building complex API, backend integrations, and related services
  • You have used popular API/backend frameworks like Spring Boot, Ruby on Rails, or Zend Framework
  • You have a very high software artisanship standards, taking great pleasure in writing highly maintainable, testable, and documented code
  • You follow so-called best engineering practices and architecture patterns when designing and implementing backend features
  • You have have strong work ethics and communication, and you understand their importance in remote work environments
  • You never stop learning, perfecting your hard and soft skills
  • You follow technology trends and the latest innovations, and you are able to judge the maturity and practical applications for the tools catching your attention
  • You base your decision on evidence, data, and customer satisfaction
  • You enjoy working with multidisciplinary teams, supporting your colleagues, respecting everyone’s opinion, wearing many hats when needed, and collaboratively finding the shortest path to achieve the common goal
  • You believe in Agile Principles, turning them into day-to-day practices
  • You are a self-driven, goal-oriented person driving your own projects to completion, able to identify and follow priorities, reach out for help, and delegate when needed



Bonus points

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Experience working in the travel industry
  • Experience with Spring Boot and Kotlin
