About This Role

The Associate Mechanical Engineer will work as part of the Design Engineering team to support the design, manufacturing, testing and deployment of all equipment needed for the application of Apeel’s product at our supplier locations, and also support the design, manufacturing, testing and other support of Product Quality monitoring equipment. 

What You'll Do

  • Oversee the in-house manufacturing of Gamma mixing skids and participate in the work to establish a third party manufacturer of these mixing systems.
  • Support the Design Engineering team by helping with assembly and testing of new equipment.
  • Work with component manufacturers and third party contract manufacturers as needed to ensure equipment quality.
  • Offer design improvements for improved ease of manufacturing, improved performance and increased reliability.
  • Present design updates during design reviews to the larger engineering team.
  • Generate detailed CAD assemblies with appropriate subassemblies and custom parts and part drawings, as needed to fabricate and build new tooling and equipment.
  • Build initial proof of concept / prototype systems.
  • Generate and carry out performance validation test plans for new designs.
  • Collect and analyze performance data from equipment to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Generate design documentation including Bills of Materials and needed assembly or user documentation.
  • Write technical reports, present design and test results during Apeel’s technical forums.

What You Bring

  • Mechanical Engineering degree with 1-2 years experience working in an engineering environment.
  • Hands-on experience with the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience designing with CAD, preferably using Solidworks.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Experience working with component suppliers to identify, validate and source key components.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-directed but also works effectively and professionally with cross functional teams to achieve common Company goals.
