Divergent 3D is on a mission to democratize the design and manufacture of vehicles. We want to enable a future where small entrepreneurial teams across the globe will bring increasingly material and energy efficient transportation solutions to market with a fraction of the capital and time.

The current auto manufacturing system is economically and environmentally broken. Divergent invented a manufacturing system that combines software, additive manufacturing, and assembly technologies to radically reduce the material, energy, time and capital required to design and build vehicles. This will transform the automotive industry from capital intensive to innovation intensive while dramatically reducing the lifecycle environmental impact of vehicles. Over the past two years, the company has been recognized for its disruptive innovation, receiving the Frost & Sullivan Innovation of the Year and the inaugural Petersen Innovation in the Automotive Industry awards as well as being named a Google Moonshot company.

Your Role: Additive Manufacturing Engineer

Divergent is seeking an experienced and motivated engineer to advance our production system through the evolution and maturation of tools to support 3D printing, build file preparation, and optimization. We’re committed to transforming the Divergent 3D production system away from traditional manufacturing methods and to 3D printing enabled systems using new materials and technologies. To do this, we need a forward looking and innovative engineer who will help to shape the future of manufacturing 3D printed automotive structures and components.

Your Goals:

•Provide design for Additive Manufacturing input to engineering teams to collaborate in making optimized parts for our complex, multi-material vehicle structures.

•Interface with engineering, software, and manufacturing groups to understand process constraints and provide design inputs for improved printability and tools development.

•Advance our techniques for support structure optimization, with the opportunity to add to our patent portfolio in this area.

•Improve our distortion and error reduction activities, helping to insure part tolerance accuracy.

•Continually pursue improvements for support material reduction, part packing density, powder egress, and build success rate.

•Evaluate and recommend software tools that can help to achieve production goals.

•Optimize 3-dimensional build layout and part nesting in support of achieving printer productivity rates.

•Follow defined procedures and processes and help to create them where needed.

•Work with supplied CAD files to prepare build files for 3D printing.

•Generate build time estimates in support of program planning and execution.

What You Have:

•BS in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent.

•1+ years of experience using CAD and CAM tools for build preparation in support 3D printed metal component production.

•In depth, current experience with process simulation software such as Simufact, Netfabb, or 3DSIM.

•Understanding of metallurgy to include Aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, Titanium, and nickel base alloys.

The Extras

•Previous programming experience – Python, C, Matlab, or other object oriented.

•Computational geometry or parametric modeling experience (NX a plus).

•Experience with computer aided robotic path development.

•Understanding of metallurgy to include Aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, Titanium, and nickel base alloys .

•Applied college engineering experience (FSAE/Formula Student programs a strong plus).
