About the Product Researcher at Headspace:

Our team is driven by a genuine curiosity for understanding people and a passion for bringing our vision of improving the health and happiness of the world to life. As a Product Researcher, you will play a key role in shaping the research practice at Headspace, adding a highly skilled, human-centric component to our growing product team.

As a Product Researcher at Headspace, you will be leading research initiatives to uncover new insights about our users and use these insights to inspire product innovation. Your days will be spent embarking on research projects, learning about user behavior, and working side by side with designers, product managers, data scientists, and our science team to create a shared, human-centric vision for the future of our product.

We’re looking for someone with a natural ability to engage our users on a personal level, getting below the surface to uncover their deeper needs and motivations. You’ll need to be able to operate on multiple levels – planning a long-term research study one minute and helping the team sketch out a quick prototype the next. Additionally, you’ll need to have a passion for working hands-on with users and an ability to distill complex learnings into actionable insights that can drive our product, business, and creative teams forward. Above all, we’re looking for someone with a natural curiosity about human behavior and a genuine passion for design.

The role will involve a range of activities such as digging deeper into user needs, developing innovative product ideas, collaborating across teams and stakeholder groups, and testing design concepts before bringing them to market.

How your skills and passion will come to life at Headspace:

  • Uncovering strategic insights: Conduct research studies to support our learning goals and inform our product and growth strategy. A few illustrative examples of areas you might explore: How do we help users build long-term habits? Which platforms, if any, should we expand into? How might community benefit our users?
  • Convey the voice of our users: Create a framework to communicate customer insights into the product and growth teams, utilizing our data science team, customer experience team, and other channels.
  • Influence product development: Utilize the above to develop a solid working knowledge of our current and future customers and use this knowledge to inspire and influence our teams, primarily on product and growth but potentially on marketing, content, and media as well. Confidently lead teams and stakeholders through research analysis, recommendations, and design concepts.
  • Incubate new ideas: Become an incubator for future innovation by building prototypes around new breakthrough ideas and validating their potential with users for easier adoption into the primary roadmaps.
  • Guide and mentor others: Train and guide the Product and Growth team on executing regular research studies and usability testing during the core product development process. Educate the team on best practices and do’s and don’ts while ensuring that the team is not thrown off track from a delivery and deadline perspective.

What you’ve accomplished:

  • 3-4 years of experience in areas including design research, market research, or user experience, in either a research consultancy or product environment.
  • A proven background using research to inform product strategy, design, and user experience.
  • Expert knowledge of a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods, such as observation, in-depth interviews, and insight generation.
  • Ability to generate behavioral insights and translate them into conceptual design solutions that can be built and tested.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, an ability to distill complex ideas into simple, actionable insight that inspire design.
  • Experience working with business & product management functions. A passion for taking an agile, measurable approach to product innovation.
  • A genuine interest in mental health, meditation, and wellbeing.

How to get started: If you’re excited by the idea of seeing yourself in this role at Headspace, please apply with your CV and a cover letter that best expresses your interest and unique qualifications.
