We are looking for a Design Operations leader to develop and implement the programs and processes that will support the design at Dave becoming a meaningful destination for high quality design talent. This role reports directly to the Head of Design, and works closely with senior design leaders and leaders within program management to design and lead the programs and processes required to enable a world class design organization. 


There are some elements of design program management in this role, but the focus is on the cultural and operational aspects of “design ops”. 


You will document processes and collaborate with organizational program management to ensure cohesion and congruence. You will oversee documentation and ensure alignment and adherence to process. More importantly, though, you will focus on the cultural and operational development required to make this process work, at scale. 


Cultural and team development efforts will include soft skills and hard skills evaluation and planning, speaker series, vendor management, tool evaluation and planning. Looking to the future, you will also be called upon to identify new systems and processes we can implement to ensure greater team productivity.  

What you'll do:

  • Define and implement a strategic design process (how we mould the double diamond to our context) and define integration points with larger organizational processes. 
  • Collaborate on and manage organizational OKRs, and ensure processes for designers to achieve and support design organization OKRs.
  • Define structure for regular rituals and team meetings and keep the team in sync, with the goal of ensuring collaboration and minimizing re-work. 
  • Collaborate on and engage with talent-building and development objectives for design organization; this should include planning for and training in both hard and soft skills
  • Design team culture: foster and champion a healthy, collaborative, and inclusive internal design culture that recognizes and celebrates positive outcomes
  • Documentation: Define and keep up-to-date documentation of how the design team works, as well as how to work with all disciplines of the team
  • Help advocate and drive collaboration on behalf of our design team, elevating other dave teams understand design and its value

What You’ll Need:

  • 8+ years of experience in Design, Program management, or Operational leadership. 
  • 5+ years focused on design operations 
  • Subject matter expertise relating to design processes, methods, and toolkits; ability to identify opportunities to improve how designers work, and develop effective solutions.
  • Proven ability to tackle a diverse set of organizational challenges, recognize patterns, and develop strategic and scalable solutions
  • An uncanny ability to find the right balance between not enough process (chaos) and too much (bureaucracy)
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills 
  • Passion for supporting teams and enabling designers to do their best work
  • Expertise in change management in a scaling organization
