1. Position Overview

The Data Scientist will be responsible for processing large test data sets, creating scripts for data processing, development of data management tools, and test data collection, processing, reporting automation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Experience with AVL Concerto is a plus.
  2. Develop and Implement Data Management System.
  3. Mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development.
  4. Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  5. Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.
  6. Develop company A/B testing framework and test model quality.
  7. Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
  8. Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.
  9. Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
  10. Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  11. Experience working with and creating data architectures.
  12. Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
  13. Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
  14. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
  15. A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
  16. Coding knowledge and experience with several languages: C, C++, Java, JavaScript, etc.
  17. Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques: GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, etc.
  18. Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SLQ, etc.
  19. Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc.
  20. Experience with distributed data/computing tools such as: Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Gurobi, MySQL, etc.
  21. Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Master’s or PHD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or another quantitative field.
  2. 5 to 7 years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models.
  3. Ability to build a brand-new data management and data processing/reporting system.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  6. Experience with AVL Concerto a plus.
  7. Data Management Experience.
  8. Experience in scripting and automation of data gathering, processing, and reporting.
  9. Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
  10. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  11. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  12. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  13. Ability to work under pressure and meet exacting deadlines.
