Position: Senior Data Engineer

Summary

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will build an effective data infrastructure that will generate insights for analytics and machine learning. In this role, you will design, build, and manage a big data cloud platform; partner with data analysts and scientists to build an infrastructure/pipeline to collect and analyze all necessary data, including social media data sets; work with proprietary data sets; and ensure databases are high-performing and secure.

You will be an integral team member of an agile team dedicated to breaking the norm and pushing the limits of continuous improvement and innovation. You will have the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge and skills to keep your mind and our business on the leading edge of technology.

This is not an entry-level opportunity for a software developer, data analyst, or a traditional relational database engineer who does not have proven work experience in big data and cloud platforms.

The Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity where you can leverage your years of experience to design, develop, and implement a flagship data analytics platform. You will also be able to contribute to building a world-class team of data professionals, including analysts, architects, engineers, and scientists.

Responsibilities

  • Work with product team, data scientists, and data analysts on database design and implementation.
  • Build scalable databases for the consumption of structured and unstructured data using batch, micro-batch, and streaming data acquisition
  • Design and build data solutions with an emphasis on performance, scalability, and high-reliability
  • Code, test, and document new or modified data systems to create robust and scalable applications for data analytics.
  • Develop models within distributed computing frameworks
  • Take on research projects to improve data processing and implemented machine learning frameworks
  • Work with DevOps for CI/CD of database structures across environments

Essential Knowledge & Skills

  • RDBMS systems like Oracle, SQL Server, DB2
  • Document database schemas and models
  • Database design principals
  • Query execution plans
  • Graph, KVP/Tuple, Document databases
  • ETL architectures, data movement technologies, and building communication channels between structured and unstructured databases
  • Database partitioning, database optimization
  • Solid understanding of one or more programming languages related to data engineering

Experience

Note: the length of time for experience requirements is based on full-time, work experience and does not include time for academic projects.

Required

  • SQL: 5+ years
  • Relational database design: 5+ years
  • PostgreSQL : 3+ years
  • AWS or Google Cloud Platform for data applications (e.g. EC2, S3, Redshift, RDS, Data Pipeline, GCS, BigQuery) : 3+ years
  • NoSQL implementation (Hadoop/Hbase, Mongo, Cassandra, etc.)
  • Monitoring tools (such as Nagios) : 3+ years
  • Language such as Java, Python, Groovy, Ruby, or UNIX Shell Scripting : 2+ years

Plus

  • Intermediate-to-expert knowledge of Commercial Property sector
  • Experience with real time streaming AWS Kinesis or Apache Kafka/Storm
  • College or University instruction that has been applied to your professional career
