Kernel will bring neuro measurement mainstream. We have built the next generation non-invasive brain interface. From the photon through machine learning, we are a close-knit, full-stack team that thrives on pushing the limits. Join us on this epic journey as we strive to usher in a new era of understanding ourselves, each other and the future of our shared existence.

We are looking for an expert in computational physics modeling to support the hardware design, signal processing, data analysis, and source reconstruction for our Flux and Flow technologies. You will be developing numerical models of neural activity and sensor physics representing real measurement use cases. The ideal candidate has extensive experience writing scientific computing software, using existing multi-physics simulation packages, as well as working with advanced numerical methods. As the modeling and data opportunities we face are complex, collaborating effectively with a team on large projects, as well as digging deep individually, will both be key.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Build high-performance simulation models of neural activity and sensor physics, as well as conduct meta-analyses across modeling results
  • Implement and validate denoising, signal processing, data analysis, and activity reconstruction algorithms on the basis of modeling results and insights
  • Inform hardware design choices on the basis of modeling results and insights
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and results effectively to team members

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in physics, engineering, or related quantitative field
  • Practical and theoretical mastery of high performance computing and advanced numerical methods including linear algebra, ODE and PDE solvers, and high dimensional (convex) optimization
  • Industry-grade coding and software engineering skills. The candidate should be able to write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in python; deeply understand decomposition, modularity, abstraction, and object-oriented programming; be comfortable with numerical python (numpy, scipy, matplotlib); and be familiar with collaborative software development including version control and code reviews
  • 3+ years of experience writing physics simulation codes
  • 2+ years of experience using multi-physics modeling software packages (e.g. Comsol)

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Specific experience modeling neural activity and its measurement using electromagnetic (EEG, ECoG, MEG) and hemodynamic modalities (fNIRS, fMRI)
  • Experience with inverse modeling and linear or nonlinear source reconstruction for neuroimaging data (EEG, MEG, fNIRS)

This position will require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Please note that any offer for employment will be conditioned on authorization to receive software or technology controlled under these U.S. export control laws and regulations without sponsorship for an export license.
