Aspiration is looking for a Director of Data Science to lead, manage, and grow our data science team while creating data products that are at the core of our business. The key individual will lead the team as it develops new data products, automates key decisions, and analyzes massive data sets to help define the future of Aspiration and our mission to DO WELL. DO GOOD.

What You'll Do

• Define Aspiration's modeling strategy and manage pipeline for internal and external modeling efforts
• Lead and manage a team of Data Scientists in developing high-quality, robust predictive algorithms
• Continue to grow our team to support the rapid growth of our core business and help deepen the integration of data science across the company
• Help develop robust, scalable infrastructure for real-time predictions
• Collaborate with a cross-functional team of Engineers, Product Managers, and other business leads to identify and manage high leverage opportunities for modeling work
• Own decision-making about data science tools and infrastructure, helping the team and company find the best technologies to analyze, visualize, extract, and store data
• Provide statistical and machine learning expertise and mentorship to improve skills across your team and others

What You'll Bring

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, physical or social sciences, engineering, or other quantitative field
• 5+ years creating predictive models using advanced machine learning techniques
• 3+ years managing a team of data scientists
• Expert knowledge of statistical analysis, algorithm development, and state-of-the-art tools and methodologies for data science
• Expert knowledge of SQL and R or Python as applied to data science
• Experience with Hadoop, Spark, or other big data platforms is a plus
• Experience developing real-time production data pipelines
• Experience designing, analyzing, and interpreting the results of product experiments
• Experience managing end-to-end machine learning pipeline, including framing, data exploration, feature engineering, model building, performance evaluation, and online testing
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
• Exceptional problem solving skills with unrelenting focus on practical business implications
• Leadership, passion, and curiosity
• Prior experience in FinTech or related fields (preferred)
