How we LEAD:

Universal Music Group is looking for a Director of Analysis and Development to join the Music Strategy and Tactics team. The MS&T team is led by professionals with music strategy, curation, and data backgrounds. The MS&T team is looking for a developer and analyst to oversee all analysis strategy for the MS&T team by generating and implementing dashboards and automated reporting tools that will benefit the operations of the entire team and internal stakeholders at UMG.

This position requires close collaboration with business stakeholders and subject matter experts, in order to consult on projects, gather requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and design excellent dashboards that get to the heart of the matter in a clear and succinct manner. The ideal candidate should be capable of creating front end web apps and writing complex queries that will feed their reports and/or dashboards. They should also be capable of tapping into multiple data sources and creating their own datasets to suit their end goal. They should have quantitative experience (financial modelling, Excel, PowerPoint, SQL, data visualization) and should also demonstrate a solid understanding (or an eagerness to learn) the business models that are currently revolutionizing digital and subscription-based media.

Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated ability to manage requests in a professional manner, communicate findings to a variety of different audience types (from Senior Executives to fellow Analysts), and work in project teams to answer interesting questions in a consultative fashion.

How you'll CREATE:

  • Work with stakeholders to understand goal of requests
  • Gather and prepare data from multiple sources to support information analytics. Experience using SQL
  • Use data to identify user/partner trends, including user engagement, listening habits, conversion, retention, monetization, genre insights, among many others
  • Develop dynamic models to help with executive presentations, etc.
  • Form a narrative through the distillation and interpretation of large amounts of data/deep dive analysis
  • Deliver data-driven recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
  • Develop automated reports and dashboards using front-end web development techniques, DOMO, Tableau, Excel, MicroStrategy, SAP, and other reporting/visualization tools.
  • Gather and understand business requirements to set functional specifications for dashboards, reports, or reporting applications.
  • Clearly convey the key insight or "story" the data reveals in a visual format.
  • Manipulate data into sleek, functional front-end applications using the framework and packages of your choice.

Bring your VIBE:

  • 3-4 years' experience minimum
  • Experience (preferred) working with analytical tools including, Excel, SQL/Hive (complex queries), BigQuery, DOMO, Tableau, etc.
  • Experience (preferred) managing and engaging with clients in a consultative or analytical capacity
  • Experience creating front end web applications with HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Experience with UI design, aesthetics design, and/or Adobe Illustrator preferred
  • Passion and curiosity for music and the data that is used within the industry
  • Quantitative background, with experience (or willingness to learn) SQL and Excel
  • Familiarity with statistical concepts and tools, along with the ability to use them effectively in analyses
  • Ability to visualize data using PowerPoint and other tools
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines
  • Comfortable walking through analysis, communicating findings to executives and/or a broader audience
  • Ability to build relationships across business units, work well in a collaborative team environment
  • All majors welcome
  • BS in Business, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other quantitative degree preferred
