Nexleaf Analytics is a growing nonprofit technology company with a unique bottom-up approach for bringing data-driven impact to public health and climate change interventions in low- and middle-income countries. Our diverse team of computer scientists, engineers, data scientists, public health experts, environmental advocates, and field managers design and deploy technology to ensure sustainable impact. We work directly with end users in a variety of countries, including India, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Kenya, to customize our sensors to meet their specific needs.
Partnering with leading institutions such as Gavi, Google.org, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Qualcomm Wireless Reach, Nexleaf helps deliver safe vaccines to over 12.5 million babies annually and connect rural homes with mobile money payments for reducing carbon emissions.
THE ROLE
Nexleaf has a unique culture and mission of promoting and facilitating the use of data among our partner organizations, including ministries of health and local NGOs. A core part of that mission is to utilize innovative data analyses to help drive better intervention design, more effective market creation, and meaningful on-the-ground behavior change. We seek a Data Analyst to perform analyses of the data we collect, to develop close relationships with our partners when discussing those analyses with them, and to advocate for the benefits that a robust use of data can bring.
The major responsibilities of the position will include:
● Interpreting data, analyzing results using statistical techniques, and providing ongoing reports.
● Performing reproducible analyses of time-series and categorical data sets to characterize the performance of certain types of equipment that we monitor.
● Helping partners use data to achieve their core goals, including rapidly iterating on their data-related requests so that they can easily answer the questions which are most important to them. This will likely require patience, listening, and clear communication with people who have varying levels of familiarity with data analysis.
● Learning from partners to determine new possibilities that could be derived from their data.
● Collaborating with Nexleaf’s data scientist to help build advanced analytical models.
● Engaging with Nexleaf’s tech team to bring new ideas for analytics and visualizations into our online portals.
● Engaging with Nexleaf’s communications team to share findings with broader audiences.
● Locating and defining opportunities to improve our processes related to data analytics.
Required Qualifications:
● B.S. degree or higher in a highly quantitative discipline.
● Understanding of best practices around the use of version control for reproducible data analysis.
● At least 2 years experience programming in a numeric or scientific language such as R, python/pandas, or Julia.
● Well-established understanding of basic statistical analysis.
● Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to discuss and explain data results to people with a wide variety of scientific, professional, and cultural backgrounds.
● Keen analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
