Motion Capture Technical Director

Sony PlayStation Visual Arts is looking for a Motion Capture Technical Director to join our development team. In this role, you drive technological advancement and innovation in the Motion Capture department, and manage and support all technology in our Motion Capture studios. Our goal is to ensure that Sony Interactive Entertainment remains on the cutting edge of all capture technology and that Sony PlayStation Visual Arts remains an elite Motion Capture service provider. 

Sony PlayStation Visual Arts is dedicated to providing the highest quality artistic support to first-party Sony game teams as well as other teams developing titles for the PS4. We offer dozens of services including asset scanning, actor scanning, body motion capture, facial motion capture, motion edit, animation, facial tracking and solving, and lighting.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise development of custom Motion Capture infrastructure and pipelines
• Work with Engineering and other VASG departments to drive Mocap department R&D
• Develop, deploy and support custom tracking, solving and retargeting tools
• Set up new character rigs for pre-visualization, real-time and post processing
• Trouble shoot primary stage tech; Mocap, HMCs, reference video etc.
• Help develop custom Facial Capture/Scan pipeline, from acquisition through solve
• Facilitate Motion Capture database integration into Shotgun and proprietary databases
• Investigate new Motion Capture and Scan Technologies

Requirements:

• Expert knowledge of Motion Capture systems and software
• Expert knowledge Lightstorm/Giant Motion Capture software preferred
• Ability to supervise teams on stage
• At least six years of experience on Game and/or Film Motion Capture Stages
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
