Job Summary:

 

The Copy Manager is responsible for the daily production of copy and content for both Hawke Media’s internal marketing department as well as various client projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in copywriting, content marketing and project management, but also possess the ability to work intensely and efficiently with external clients and freelancers. This person must be proactive, have strong attention to detail, and a passion for the written word.

 

As a copy manager, you will collaborate with Hawke Media’s internal marketing team as well as the creative department and associated team members to help create and define the brand messaging based on the existing tone of voice. The copy manager will also be responsible for helping to rewrite existing copy from clients, manage freelance writers as they tackle similar projects, work with designers to structure and implement copy to the targeted demographic and proper storyline, as well as advise on any messaging changes required for proper conversion. Copywriters who have experience connecting customers and brands through storytelling, intuitive interfaces, and transformative brand experiences are preferred.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop unique conceptual ideas and communicate these through creative writing skills
  • Define/maintain the voice of Hawke Media as well as various brands across both lifestyle and B2B industries through consistent and creative writing
  • Understand the message the client is seeking to express and translating this into written content
  • Partner with Hawke Media’s Internal Marketing Team, along with our Content and Creative teams to develop creative copy to speak to visual assets showcased in marketing collateral, websites, mass emails, etc.
  • Ensure that all written content is accurate and consistent, and incorporate revisions according to current routing procedures
  • Maintain important trends in advertising and disseminates pertinent information to team and extended creative staff
  • Thoroughly review, assess and edit copy provided for creative engagements such as collateral or websites to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Create guidelines and copy Frameworks for websites, source and manage (qualified) writers and editors from our proprietary network of freelancers, facilitate content production and perform other duties to support the successful creation of high-quality copy on deadline for site delivery.

 

 

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, marketing, communications or related field preferred; minimum of 2 years content marketing experience (for brands) with a strong writing and editing background
  • At least 1 year of project management experience (at the brand or agency level preferred)
  • At least 2 years copywriting and/or editorial experience (preferably in digital media and e-commerce)

 

Skills and Knowledge:

 

  • Ability to think creatively and brainstorm out-of-the-box content solutions that support business objectives and address client’s needs
  • Experience with copy for multiple formats (e.g., website content, blogs, infographics, print collateral, brand books, style guides, )
  • Experience working with freelancers, making assignments, tracking, providing feedback and managing invoices for payment
  • Ability to balance several projects at once while working in a deadline-driven environment
  • Efficient, accurate, organized, dependable and detail-oriented
  • Flexibility with rapidly changing priorities and customer needs
  • Experience with content management systems and online publishing tools or e-commerce platforms is a plus
  • Understanding of specific content best practices for websites and e-commerce
  • Familiarity with basic SEO concepts, including the role content creation plays in a sites' organic search traffic
  • Self–starter with strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating in a team environment
  • Proficient understanding of the digital marketing space

 

Computer/Software/Application Proficiency:

 

  • Solid Google Suite, Microsoft Office Skills, data management, PowerPoint and Excel experience needed
  • Proficiency in various tools: Google Analytics and AP style (SEMrush a plus)
