Survios, the developer of the best-selling game Raw Data for the HTC Vive, has an opening for a full-time Technical Designer working with Unreal Engine 4.

As a Technical Designer for Survios, you will assist engineers in designing, implementing, and maintaining systems and tools. You will also designing and implementing complex levels, art integration, audio support, AI tuning, testing, and game balance. This position will be responsible for supporting all aspects of design as needed with a primary focus on level support including gray-boxing maps as well as scripting engaging scenarios and systems for first-person VR games.

Applicants should be enthusiastic about the opportunity to collaborate with other developers across disciplines, seek out opportunities to dive in, solve problems, and make improvements wherever necessary.

The ideal candidate has experience working with a cross disciplinary team on a large codebase. Candidates should have solid technical fundamentals including strong 3D math, optimization, debugging and problem solving skills. Candidates are expected to be self-starting and proactive in identifying risk and determining solutions. They should have a passion for adding the extra polish that sets our games apart.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with members of design and engineering to support design needs including level scripting, art integration, audio hookup, gameplay support, AI, testing, game balance, etc.
  • Collaborate with Art, Animation, Engineering, QA and Audio team members to create functional, fun and visually compelling worlds that achieve unprecedented and immersive VR gaming experiences
  • Contribute innovative and original ideas on all aspects of game production and development.

Requirements:

  • Unreal Engine 4 experience including blueprints and C++ implementation.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as: BluePrints, C#, Lua, or Javascript
  • Worked on at least 2 complete projects: college projects and mod projects are acceptable
  • Good methodology and problem solving ability, with focus on rapid iteration to achieve balance, pacing, and fun
  • Deep understanding of game design for first-person combat and exploration, including design for competitive and cooperative multiplayer
  • Very comfortable working in game editors and understanding engine/game constraints and opportunities
  • Effective communicator and collaborator with engineers and developers from other disciplines.
  • A natural curiosity for all aspects of game development and a willingness to work on a wide variety of game systems.
  • A strong passion for video game development.
  • Strong, updated and current portfolio with samples of your work

Pluses:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Math or related field.
  • Experience working with Virtual Reality platforms including Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Sony PlayStation VR.
  • Knowledge of Agile Methodology, JIRA, Perforce, DEdit, Radiant etc.
