We are looking for a technical data analyst to lead technical data projects to provide company insights and advanced analytics used to shape our product and company strategy. In this role, you will help lead the development of proprietary data platforms (analytical, visual, geospatial) to extract greater value from existing data sets or integrate new data sets. These platforms will generate advanced analytics that include:

• Customer Life Cycle – using multiple data sources and platforms, how can we identify the ways our users change as they engage with our financial solutions to provide them with the best experience?
• Multi-Country Assessment – as we expand into new markets, what lessons can we translate from our primary countries? How do the needs, behaviors, and customers change between each region, and how should we accommodate them in our financial services? How do we create global insights?
  
• Customer Segmentation – who are our core users for the various financial products we provide? Could other services benefit these individuals?

You will report to the Data Analytics Director and collaborate cross-functionally with all Tala teams.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership, development, and implementation of data product prototyping and module creation within the DA team
• Leverage new techniques to investigate our data and incorporate external information to boost our knowledge of this market
• Communicate complicated data findings in a clear and concise manner to our multi-country and multi-functional teams
• Collaborate across initiatives to improve our company-level KPIs and match our corporate priorities
• Champion analytics across the product and organization

Required Qualifications:

• 4+ years of professional experience in a technology and data role
• 1+ years’ experience with development in and usage of an analytics data platform (Tableau, Domo, Looker or other)
• Strong database experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL)
• Familiarity with designing and building prototypes for Data access and visualization 
• Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining, segmentation and data science techniques
• Bachelors or Masters in a quantitative field (Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Economics, etc.)
• Ability to absorb vast quantities of information in short periods of time
• Proven ability to make logical and commercial decisions based on partial data and under time pressure

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of financial inclusion or leveraging mobile technology for social impact
• Familiarity with alternative financial products, such as prize-linked savings or microinsurance
• Experience or familiarity with emerging markets such as Eastern Africa and Southeast Asia
• Experience integrating Analytics platforms with business applications (eg: Salesforce, Marketo, Wordpress, etc.)
• Working experience with database technology, data models, data warehouse, ETL tools, DB programming, and administration.
• Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, GCP)
• Familiarity with mobile analytics
