Supv, Pressroom
The Pressroom Supervisor is responsible for and maintains efficient operation of the pressroom, platemaking and newsprint handling.
Responsibilities:• Supervises daily schedule of press runs to meet edition deadlines. Make up and alternates crews to cover daily operations. Makes sure crews are fully staffed to fill in for vacations and sick time by scheduling support staff to fill crew shortages.
• Assures that work environment is safe and all employees are performing duties in a safe and appropriate manner. Supports all safety initiatives.
• Maintains quality assurance throughout entire production process. Supports all quality programs.
• Is responsible for a timely and comprehensive performance management program.
• Dedicates effort to training and development of employees.
• Maintains proper departmental performance with respect to departmental goals (e.g. waste, budget, productivity, quality, and safety).
• Troubleshoots production, communicating with Pressroom, Production Services, Platemaking, Newsprint and Post Press on any information pertinent to production of various editions.
• Coordinates pressroom scheduling with other production facilities and departments on pressroom equipment.
• Monitors production runs and assigns duties and products to press.
• Assists in long-tern and daily work schedules, reviews and verifies work and hours schedules.
• Ensures proper staffing for next shift and assigns crews to presses.
• Performs related duties as assigned or requested.
• Resolves pressroom and employee issues.
• Ensures accuracy of all payroll matters.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a Press Supervisory role
- Requires working knowledge of presses and peripheral equipment
- Able to work weekends, holiday and various shifts
