We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the backend engineering team, developing a scalable financial platform to serve millions of users across the world. You will drive a culture that values engineering craftsmanship and innovation. Along the way, you will help build a modern technical platform and growing, world-class engineering team.

This is a management role within Tala’s management track. You will report to the Head of Engineering and collaborate cross-functionally with all Tala teams.

Responsibilities:

• Manage a team of backend software engineers, including task planning and code reviews
• Collaborate with product management to execute on company’s product roadmap
• Be responsible for the overall planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects
• Contribute technically to projects via designs and test driven development (Test Driven Development)
• Recruit and build an effective engineering team
• Contribute to and improve our strong engineering culture

Requirements:

• 3 years of hands-on technical leadership and people management experience
• Hands-on programming experience
• BA/BS degree in Computer Science or closely related field
• Knowledge of Java, Scala, Python
• Practitioner of TDD

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Experience working in Agile development process
• Experience working with Data Science/Machine Learning platforms
• Advanced degree in Computer Science or closely related field
• Strong Unix/Linux Shell scripting skills
• Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, GCP)
