Radiant Industries is an El Segundo, CA-based startup developing Kaleidos, a portable, containerized nuclear microreactor. Portable nuclear power with rapid deploy capability can replace diesel generators used today to provide critical asset support for hospitals, datacenters, and military bases or to power microgrids at remote sites. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development utilizes modern software engineering to rapidly achieve safe, factory-constructable microreactors leveraging existing, well-qualified materials. Radiant is on a fast track to demonstrate the first fueled operation of a new commercial nuclear reactor design, just two years from now.

Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Radiant is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and test firmware for instrumentation and control (I&C) systems on the Kaleidos reactor system, hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) test stands, and PLCs. You will develop mission critical, highly performant embedded systems for microcontrollers to interface with sensors and actuators. The candidate will be comfortable working in early design architectural stages and owning through production. You will have the opportunity to build mission critical autonomous software control systems for the first commercialized portable nuclear microreactor.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Design and build reliable, fault-tolerant firmware for test systems and production hardware.
  • Develop and bring up real-time operating systems and drivers for I&C modules.

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience with ThreadX or RISC-V.
  • Experience working with instrumentation and control systems.
  • Experience with FPGAs.
  • Comfortable taking extreme ownership of responsibilities and domain.
  • Strong communication across interdisciplinary teams and distilling deep technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and proactively in day-to-day activities.
