 tronc Optimization Team

This team is designed to accelerate tronc’s digital growth by working with the local markets to identify the right opportunities to package, enhance and distribute our storytelling to a wider audience. This “strike" team will play an integral role in creating a cohesive content strategy across all tronc markets, which include the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun, Sun Sentinel, The San Diego Union-Tribune, Orlando Sentinel, Hartford Courant, The Morning Call and Daily Press.

 

 

What You Will Do

You will be a lead point of contact with assistant editors at assigned local markets.  You will work to increase time spent on site, engage audience, and beat competitors. You will help improve the reach of and engagement with content and communities related to a given subject area.  You will drive coverage for digital and social platforms. You must be well versed working within the CMS and in use of various social platforms and tools. The stories you curate must meet the highest standards of accuracy and fairness.  The expectations of the position include journalistic excellence, innovation and strategic programming to grow audience in key areas.

Responsibilities:
  • Identify opportunities to package online content, including re-write/test headlines and finding relevant related items.
  • Collaborate with the markets on local journalism to ensure content meets the established standards.
  • Curate content from third parties.
  • Provide data analytics to the local markets to provide the ROI on content chosen in the local markets.
  • Engage assistant editors to assign and/or shoot video and photos to accompany stories.
  • Ensure that Annual Revenue Per User (ARPU) objectives are met at the local assigned market.
  • Enhance the user experience by providing guidance to local markets on visualizing content.
  • Work closely with assistant editors and other content managers to foster the creation of timely, accurate, informative and thought-provoking stories.
  • Monitor trends and audience patterns to make sure journalism is optimally packaged to reach large, targeted audience.
  • Manage the presentation of stories, photos and videos for all appropriate digital channels, including our own sites and apps, social media platforms and 3rd-party aggregators.
  • Meet or exceed daily metrics goals for page views, photo views, video views, social media shares and other measures.
  • Solicit feedback from audience and markets.
  • Monitor competing websites and others reporting on the community.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3-plus years of experience in digital publishing.
  • Strong news judgment.
  • Keen sense of social media and how to maneuver in the digital space.
  • Ability to collaborate with markets to ensure goals are achieved.
  • Strong aptitude for digital analytics and the ability to communicate the results to employees.
  • Expert knowledge of content management systems.
  • Excellent writing, reporting and editing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable using content management systems, HTML and photo/video editing.
