As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead a team that builds technology used across the LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun and 150 other publications. Your hands-on style makes you a natural mentor to your team, and your inherent sense of project management means that your team is always effectively and efficiently working towards deadlines with confidence. The products that your team delivers will drive a cutting edge user experience used by nearly 100 million visitors every month and growing. Responsibilities:As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead a team that builds technology used across the LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun and 150 other publications. Qualifications:- At least 5 years’ experience managing front- and back-end engineers;
- At least 7 years of hands on development experience in Python, PHP or Java;
- Expert in all aspects of the SDLC;
- Working knowledge of modern front-end frameworks;
- Operational experience with RDBMS and NoSQL databases;
- Hands-on experience consuming RESTful APIs (and bonus points for creating them);
- Exceptional ability to deconstruct a feature into actionable development tasks and cost them accurately;
- Successful record of creating development timelines and being held accountable to them;
- Strong sense of ownership;
- Experience working in an Agile environment;
- Excellent documentation and communication skills;
- BA/BS degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience;
- Smarts, humility, creativity, and equal willingness to teach and learn.
