Role summary:
As a Lead Application Developer at DataScience, you’ll have ownership and responsibility over the technical architecture, implementation, and maintenance of our business-focused data products. You’ll work closely with product managers and designers to provide feedback and estimates regarding the technical feasibility of a potential product or feature. As a senior member of the engineering team, you will mentor a cross-functional team of software developers, implementing and advocating for best practices along the way.
Job requirements:
- Review and provide feedback on early product ideas and designs
- Assess the technical risk of potential software engineering projects
- Work with data scientists and systems to architect technical solutions
- Work with product managers to break down business requirements into technical Jira tickets and prioritize those tasks
- Lead a team of software developers to successfully implement data products
- Contribute production code and review the quality of code produced by your team members
- Promote engineering best practices, such as automated test and code review
- Foster a culture of continuous learning by preparing and presenting relevant material to the team, including interesting open source projects, white papers, algorithms, etc.
Required experience:
- Prior experience in a lead or architect role overseeing a technical project from end-to-end
- Comfort and experience working across the entire application stack including modern front end, back end, database, and ops
- Exhibited mastery of multiple programming languages (Python, Scala, Javascript)
- Significant experience working with both SQL and NoSQL databases including schema design, performance optimization, and operations
- Familiarity with DevOps concepts and technologies such as CI/CD, configuration management, virtual machines or containers, and cloud hosting services such as AWS, etc.
- Experience working with data, distributed systems, and micro-service architectures
- Understanding and appreciation of automated software testing including unit tests, integration tests, object mocks, and performance tests
- Ability to manage and mentor a cross-functional team of software developers (front end, back end, full stack)
- Knowledge and practice with agile methodologies
