Job Title: Director Service Management

 

Job Location: Santa Monica, California

 

Role Description: We are looking for a leader responsible for Beautycounter’s DevOps cloud infrastructure operations and advanced technologies at scale with an emphasis on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This team is responsible for service management, network infrastructure optimization (i.e., load balancing), and deployment automation and maintenance. The person will be responsible to plan and organize resources to implement and operate Beautucounter’s AWS infrastructure according to requirements as specified by development, architecture and package solution teams.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  •  The Service Management Director role is responsible for designing, building, and improving cloud environments on AWS, 
  •  Implement core operational processes (ITIL) 
  •  Lead the Cloud Infrastructure Engineering and Operations team daily activities including automation in the environment, monitoring systems, logging, and infrastructure as a service activity,
  •  Ensure optimal systems performance and proper capacity management,
  •  Manage an IT service desk team to manage field service requests and escalate as required – support as level-I Technical support desk,
  •  Represent the infrastructure/production operation team in matters such as architecture review meetings, project status, capacity planning, and data management,
  •  Ensure proper security infrastructure management, and
  •  Manage and report on critical operational metrics regarding the health of the infrastructure.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Both a hands-on and management level experience is a must,
  • Candidate should have a strong infrastructure architecture background with experience in virtualization technologies,
  • Experience with core ITIL operational processes – experience in setting up core operational activities & processes (i.e., service delivery),
  • Experience in managing IT service desks – tracking IT service tickets and escalate as required,
  • Candidate should possess broad knowledge of systems infrastructure that power today’s modern and high available web and mobile applications, with deep domain expertise in one or more areas: compute, networking, storage, high availability, cloud security, application performance,
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of Linux, Automation Tools (Chef or Puppet), AWS Services (EC2, Network, ELB, S3/EBS, etc.) or similar Public Cloud platform, and scripting languages (Ruby, Perl or other) is a must,
  • Experience with setting up and running Cloud deployment frameworks (i.e., Stack formation, Bash, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy)
  • Understanding of networking, load balancing principles and approaches to scaling out of systems.

OTHER QUALITIES 

  • BA/BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, MIS or related field or equivalent work experience,
  • 5-8 years of Cloud infrastructure engineering experience,
  • 5 years tech management experience, particularly focusing on the Cloud,
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to work across functional boundaries, build consensus and drive results,
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and good presentation skills,
  • A problem solver, able to balance competing priorities, strong process orientation and ability to manage through complexity and rapid change,
  • Track record in working and consulting with colleagues - have the ability to consult and communicate closely with management/business users as well as with third party development groups,
  • Self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, responsible team- player and exhibit exceptional relationship management skills, and
  • Passionate about building high-quality systems with software implementation best practices.
