Just after Fooda beefed up with a $5 million Series A round in December, the Chicago-based “virtual office cafeteria” is expanding operations to LA as a part of its 10-city rollout this year.
The Fooda LA team is already on the ground and is looking to hire two more on the biz dev and sales side. Fooda has proved successful in other markets since its 2011 launch: in fact, Fooda has served over 1 million meals via its web platform which facilitates group ordering of local restaurant food straight to the workplace. LA’s healthy lifestyle and limited transportation options made it a natural fit for the platform.
“The challenges facing LA office workers at lunch are no secret – congested roads and limited food options affect almost everyone,” COO Jason Stulberg said. “We’re already working with some restaurant partners that will bring great food right to the workplace. We’ve found LA workers to be very health-conscious, so Fooda has sought out restaurant partners that provide tasty, healthy meals.”
Fooda’s support of LA will be threefold: hiring locally, working with local restaurants and feeding local employees. Also, Fooda will be adding to LA’s growing tech scene: “We’d love to get more connected to the tech community in LA. We’re excited about the trend towards the revival of Downtown LA, of more companies are moving downtown and taking root. Fooda wants to be part of that community.”
