Content in 2015 Should Read Like A Deck of Cards

Econsultancy recently posted an article highlighting the "17 Crucial Web Design Trends for 2015" that I implore everyone read. It contains great examples of how brands are using imagery in both responsive Web design and social media content to captivate and engage.

According to Econsultancy, the acute use of imagery and simple design will be critical for marketing in 2015. Sounds easy enough.

Right now, my cat is eating a pair of socks I intended to wear. I left them on my desk two seconds two long and I either sacrifice my hand to get the socks back or surrender them and hunt for another. Let's just say I am now wearing a different pair.

It's a great metaphor for how we as creatures are wired to stimuli. We see something we like, and we engage. For a cat and a pair of socks, it's distruction. For us and content, it's consumption, curiosity, intrigue, WANT -- the simpler the message, the greater the odds for engagement.

Tips for better content using imagery:

- Try showcasing a single product versus your entire line using an image and simple call to action; linking to the rest.

- Build your social content like a deck of cards. Side-by-side or vertically depending ont he platform your using. Image is the Queen of Hearts, supported by outliers of valuable content like share buttons, calls to actions and hashtags.

- Use fewer layers on a responsive website with ghost buttons and imagery that don't compete with one another.

- Read this article and share it with colleagues and your design team.
