5 LA tech conferences you can't miss this spring

There's a lot going on this spring in Los Angeles tech. Choosing the right conferences to attend is going to require some thinking, so we're giving you a little help. Here are the top 5 conferences we think you should attend.

LA Design Summit

Good design is coveted across all of tech; unfortunately, few know how to design well. This conference will bring together 150 leaders in the tech and design community, and will feature a diverse group of speakers and panelists. The result is a day packed with best practice lessons from organizations and companies like Tongal, Art Center College of Design, The Noun Project, Daily Look, The Honest Company, Nest and Beats by Dre. The day also features a design-a-thon competition in which four students will work together to create the visual identity (logo, collateral, web interface) for a surprise business. Mariam Naficy, CEO of Minted, is the keynote speaker.

SoGal Summit 2015

This is the largest female entrepreneurship summit in Los Angeles. For one day, more than 300 female students, mentors, startups and investors will come together to address key issues women are facing in today’s entrepreneurship world. Events include Speed Mentoring Roundtables, Entrepreneurial Journey Panels, and a pitch contest. Judges for the pitch context are Kat Manalac of Y Combinator, Alyse Killeen of March Capital Partners, Melinda Moore of Crowdfunder, Robyn Ward of United Talent Agency, Kimberly Kovacs of Golden Seeds, Terrence Yang of Yang Ventures.

LA Hacks

LA Hack is one of the world’s largest hackathon competitions; last year the event had over 4,000 registrants. It is put on at UCLA’s Pauley Pavillon and is a student competition focused on building technology products within 36 hours. Professionals in the tech industry judge products at the end of the competition. The competition is for students only and is free. Teams can have up to four members and can be assembled with other people you meet at the competition.

The State of Digital Money

The rise of Bitcoin and other forms of crypto-currencies are challenging the entire global financial system. Learn how Bitcoin is changing commerce from those working with it at the cutting edge. This conference will feature panels on investing in digital money, blockchain technology, regulation, and more. Big data is a big deal, so it’s fitting to give it a big day. At the Big Data Conference hosted by UCLA’s Anderson School of Business attendees will learn how to leverage big data technologies and analytics tools to enhance and grow their businesses.
