This May, Gem had its first annual Spirit Week, which was five days of goofy outfits and activities to really embrace the spirit of Gem. Check out what we did each day!
Monday: Alma Mater Day
Everyone rocked their grad school, college, high school and even middle school gear on Monday. In the evening we had a "Beer and Fritos Social" to harken back to our collegiate red Solo cup days. Additionally, the company was split up into cliques for the day: the jocks, the goths, and the theater kids. Each group took a photo, and the goths really captured their emotions in this winning picture:
Tuesday: 80s Workout Day
At Gem we just want to watch the world burn calories, so we turned up Salt n Pepa's first album, pulled on our neon headbands, and channeled Richard Simmon's flare for 80s Workout Day.
The day included a speed walk around the Venice Canals. We turned heads as the most colorful and enthusiastic speed walkers South of Venice blvd. Below is a screenshot from a video taken of the team competing in a foot race:
Wednesday: Beach Day
With our office two blocks from the beach, you'd think everyday would be beach day. We played football, frisbee, and Stephanie went in the ocean in her jeans because the water was that nice. Below is a photo of us having our all company meeting, Gem Sesh, before playing in the sand.
Thursday: Pajama Day
The Gem team rolled out of bed and into the office for Pajama Day. They were greeted by a cereal buffet of all the favorites, followed by a group nap session.
Friday: Holiday Day
On Friday, the team dressed up as different holidays. See above there's 4th of July, Christmas, Mother's Day, Black Friday, and more. We finished the week off with tacos, margaritas, and playing the "Name Game."
Final Thoughts
Spirit Week was a hit, and we are already discussing bigger and better events for next year. This year's favorite theme: Alma Mater Day (nostalgia runs deep). Least favorite theme: Pajama Day (but the cereal buffet can stay). To see more of Gem's office culture, check out our Instagram at GemHQ.
