The Workers’ Compensation Claims Team Lead will lead a lost time Workers’ Compensation claims team and may handle a reduced pending consisting of complex and / or catastrophic workers’ compensation claims. This position will oversee a team of adjusters handling claims ranging in severity from moderate to complex, often involving litigation.

This is a full-time remote position from anywhere in the continental US, but may require occasional travel to attend trainings, department meetings, mediations, or hearings.

Job Responsibilities

The Workers’ Compensation Claims Team will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Evaluate, reserve, and manage a reduced pending of lost time Workers’ Compensation claims
  • Provide exceptional customer service to injured workers, medical providers, and customers
  • Responsible for team performance and development
  • Partner with Claims Supervisor to identify training opportunities
  • Assist team with escalated issues, claim strategies, coverage positions, and guide team members to the appropriate resources
  • Provide coaching to claims team on claim strategy and reserving in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
  • Partner with medical providers, vendors, and injured workers to facilitate appropriate medical treatment and ensure timely submission of medical bills
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal Workers’ Compensation regulations
  • Conduct bi-annual performance and development discussions with team members
  • Communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders regarding claim status
  • Follow escalation and reporting requirements on claims with significant exposure
  • Participate in team roundtable discussions to align on reserves and settlement values
  • Recognize exposures and ensure reserves are adequate and timely
  • Conduct weekly team meetings and regular individual check-in discussions with team members
  • Proactively manage claim resolution, including formation and implementation of action plans
  • Document claim files in accordance with company and regulatory guidelines
  • Identify subrogation potential and red flags that require SIU involvement
  • Maintain adjuster licenses and continuing education, as required
  • Special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Previous Workers’ Compensation supervisory experience required
  • Minimum 5-7 years handling WC claims
  • Experience adjusting claims in any combination TX, MN, AZ, CO, IN.
  • Experience adjusting in AR, SD, IL, MI, MS, MO, KY, KS, WI, OK, and NE is helpful.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, virtual office environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Prior leadership experience a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet assigned deadlines
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and internet applications
  • Highly attentive to details
  • Able to work under pressure and execute good judgment in sensitive situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and computer skills
  • Self-motivator: works independently with minimal to moderate supervision

EDUCATION:

  • BA/BS degree required
  • AIC, SCLA, CPCU or other industry designation a plus

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided.  The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000 per year.  Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
